Remember how excited I was for this book? Well, seven issues in and I’m calling it.
The series just isn’t very good. There are a lot of things wrong with it, the art, the writing, the story all terrible.

But I could forgive that if in some way they managed to entertain me. They managed to make a citywide gang warfare story with drugs and genetic experiments sound super bland and dull. I don’t get any sense of urgency about anything. Seriously, what is happening in this book? Who is the skull guy? Who are the cops? What are Cloak and Dagger doing? Is Bombshell just going to whine about Poey forever? Who names their kid Poey?!

I don’t care about what happens to any of the characters, which is really sad because in previous books I’d been really invested in all of them! For large parts of the book I can’t even tell any of the female characters apart and 90% of the time, I’m not even sure what exactly is happening. The panels are confusing.
It pains me because I had such high hopes after Cataclysm Ultimate Spider-Man set up the team. I was so freaking excited to read more about these teens. Would Cloak and Dagger finally get justice? Would Jessica ever really feel whole? Would Miles ever fully deal with his family stuff?

The final straw was when they made Ganke skinny for no reason. Honestly, it wasn’t till he talked about Legos did I realise that they were serious, and this was supposed to be Ganke.
I heard this book won’t be continuing past the 12 issue, and I think that’s for the best. I’ve learned nothing about any of these characters that’s particularly important (other than Jessica is a lesbian, which makes sense because she’s a Peter clone). If it is ending, then I wonder what will happen to the Ultimate Universe. Will Miles be able to carry it on his own? Will they keep his book and fold these characters into it? Or will he get folded into 616? I don’t know. All I know is that this book is bad and I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone, for any reason.
