You know that band that consistently put out songs that you like, but you have no idea who they are? You vaguely know the lyrics to their songs, and you sometimes randomly hum some of their melodies, but you’re not sure what their name is. When their song plays on the radio, you smile, remember their back catalogue and it’s like you’ve rediscovered them all over again. Bombay Bicycle Club is that band for me. I know nothing about them besides what Wikipedia tells me, even though I’m sure at one point I’ve owned at least one of their albums!
It’s been a few years and I hadn’t thought about them till Boyfriend linked me this song. It wasn’t till about halfway through I realised I’d heard it before, now I can’t stop listening to it! I might forget them in a week or two, but that’s not because they’re boring or uninteresting. Check out the interactive video for this song, it is really creative and engaging.
It’s just they don’t put out songs that utterly floor me like other artists do. Instead they put out solid tracks that make me bob my head, hum along and let me get on with what I need to do with them in the background. Sometimes that’s not a bad thing, sometimes you need music that makes you happy but fades in the background. Carry Me is such a song, and that’s alright.
