Pitch Perfect (2012). Acca-scuse me? Acca-believe it!

A few months ago I was browsing Tumblr and I saw this hilarious gif set of Rebel Wilson on the set of her new movie Pitch Perfect and I couldn’t help but laugh. I watched the trailer and laughed some more, and from that I was pretty much sold. Tumblr is great for movie and tv show recommendations, honestly. It’s those gif sets, so pretty and inviting.

I was pretty pumped, I hadn’t gotten this excited about a movie since The Avengers. I usually try not to get too excited about trailers, because they tend to put the best parts in the trailer, or totally mislead you about what the movie is about (I’m looking at you Prometheus). But! I’m happy to say that Pitch Perfect was actually as hilarious as the trailer promised. It’s the perfect mix of chick-flick, non-gendered humour and musical that brings people together in a way that I haven’t seen a movie do since Mean Girls. I’ve watched it with my family and my boyfriend and although they collectively rarely like what I like, everyone was laughing and weeks after everyone has quoted something from the movie at least once.

I spent the last few weeks working on my visual resume (trust me, they’re pretty kick ass), I had this movie as my soundtrack. Not the actual soundtrack because I don’t like the way they’ve remastered some of the songs, but the actual movie. It’s amazing to listen to, especially as I found out that the actors actually sang in the movie.

Which totally blew me away. If you haven’t watched the movie yet, you should definitely go and do so. The plot (while nothing revolutionary) has a good message without being too preachy and annoying. The musical numbers make sense, in that they’re performances not that stupid Glee nonsense where they find themselves as they’re singing, and the relationships between the characters seem organic and real. I think that’s what I took away from the movie, everything that happened is plausible and anyone that is or has been in a team or organisation at an academic institution can totally relate. For everyone else? It’s all just pretty darned amusing.

Will you love it? Acca-believe that you will.

Get ready to get,
